Trooper First Class Smalls was on duty in Jasper County when he was shot and killed during a traffic stop. When making the traffic stop, Trooper Smalls did not know the suspect had killed the owner of the RV he was driving. The suspect was captured and sentenced to death. Trooper Smalls was a nine year veteran of the Patrol and was a native of Jasper County.
