COLUMBIA –The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of six persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, August 4, at 6:00 p.m. until Sunday, August 6, at midnight.

As of August 6, 569 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 596 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.
Of the 402 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 193 were not wearing seat belts.
Through midnight August 6, 76 pedestrians have died compared to 84 in 2016; 64 motorcyclists have died compared to 90 in 2016; and 12 bicyclists have died compared to 13 in 2016 on state roads and highways.
