COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of ten persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, September 22, at 6:00 p.m. until Sunday, September 24, at midnight.

As of September 24, 692 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 735 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.
Of the 480 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 231 were not wearing seat belts.
Through midnight September 24, 94 pedestrians have died compared to 102 in 2016; 84 motorcyclists have died compared to 108 in 2016; and 14 bicyclists have died compared to 20 in 2016 on state roads and highways.
