COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of five persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, October 27, at 6:00 p.m. until Sunday, October 29, at midnight.

As of October 29, 796 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 842 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.
Of the 534 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 259 were not wearing seat belts.
Through midnight October 29, 122 pedestrians have died compared to 118 in 2016; 100 motorcyclists have died compared to 127 in 2016; and 16 bicyclists have died compared to 21 in 2016 on state roads and highways.
