COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of 10 persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, May 3, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, May 5, at 11:59 p.m.

As of May 5, 304 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 334 highway deaths during the same time period in 2018.
Of the 304 people who have died in 2019, 211 had access to seatbelts, and 101 were not wearing seat belts.
Through May 5, 54 pedestrians have died compared to 50 in 2018; 21 motorcyclists have died compared to 36 in 2018; and 10 bicyclists have died compared to five in 2018 on state roads and highways.
