COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of 11 persons killed on South Carolina roadways during the Thanksgiving holiday period, which ran from Wednesday, November 21, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, November 25, at 11:59 p.m. Five deaths occurred during the weekend, from Friday, November 23, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, November 25, at 11:59 p.m.

As of November 25, 909 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 901 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017.
Of the 626 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2018, 325 were not wearing seat belts.
Through November 25, 135 pedestrians have died compared to 142 in 2017; 95 motorcyclists have died compared to 113 in 2017; and 19 bicyclists have died compared to 16 in 2017 on state roads and highways.
