COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of four persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, July 28, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, July 30, at midnight.

As of July 30, 2017, 553 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 571 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.
Of the 393 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 188 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight July 30, 72 pedestrians died compared to 77 in 2016; 61 motorcyclists died compared to 83 in 2016; and 12 bicyclists died compared to 13 in 2016 on state roads and highways.
