COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of six persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, December 15, at 6:00 p.m. until Sunday, December 17, at midnight.

As of December 17, 929 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 981 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.
Of the 619 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 297 were not wearing seat belts.
Through midnight December 17, 148 pedestrians have died compared to 140 in 2016; 112 motorcyclists have died compared to 147 in 2016; and 18 bicyclists have died compared to 25 in 2016 on state roads and highways.
