As of August 26, 640 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 647 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017.
Of the 445 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2018, 220 were not wearing seat belts.
Through August 26, 96 pedestrians have died compared to 90 in 2017; 68 motorcyclists have died compared to 78 in 2017; and 11 bicyclists have died compared to 12 in 2017 on state roads and highways.
