SCDPS Reports Seven Killed On South Carolina Roadways May 17, 2019 To May 19, 2019

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of seven persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, May 17, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, May 19, at 11:59 p.m.

As of May 19, 344 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 383 highway deaths during the same time period in 2018.

Of the 344 people who have died in 2019, 240 had access to seatbelts, and 114 were not wearing seat belts.

Through May 19, 62 pedestrians have died compared to 57 in 2018; 24 motorcyclists have died compared to 43 in 2018; and 10 bicyclists have died compared to five in 2018 on state roads and highways.
