COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of 12 persons killed on South Carolina roadways during the 102-hour Thanksgiving Day travel period, which started on Wednesday, November 27, at 6 p.m. and concluded on Sunday, December 1, at 11:59 p.m.
One of these deaths occurred during the weekend period from Friday, November 29, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, December 1, at 11:59 p.m. In 2018, there were 12 deaths during the 102-hour Thanksgiving Day travel period, which occurred from November 21 at 6 p.m. through November 25 at 11:59 p.m.

As of December 1, 2019, 901 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 965 highway deaths during the same time period in 2018.
Of the 901 people who have died in 2019, 578 had access to seatbelts, and 276 were not wearing seat belts.
Through December 1, 147 pedestrians have died compared to 156 in 2018; 115 motorcyclists have died compared to 109 in 2018; and 24 bicyclists have died compared to 20 in 2018 on state roads and highways.
