COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of five persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, January 22, at 6:00 p.m. until Sunday, January 24, at midnight.

As of January 24, 2016, 43 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 50 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 30 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 20 were not wearing seat belts.
Through midnight January 24, five pedestrians died compared to ten in 2015; four motorcyclists died compared to four in 2015; and three bicyclists died compared to one in 2015 on state roads and highways.
