COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of 12 persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, March 4, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, March 6, at midnight.

As of March 6, 2016, 144 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 154 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 105 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 57 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight March 6, 20 pedestrians died compared to 25 in 2015; 10 motorcyclists died compared to 11 in 2015; and five bicyclists died compared to four in 2015 on state roads and highways.
