COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of three persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, April 15, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, April 17, at midnight.

As of April 17, 2016, 251 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 270 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 171 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 80 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight April 17, 35 pedestrians died compared to 34 in 2015; 27 motorcyclists died compared to 24 in 2015; and nine bicyclists died compared to eight in 2015 on state roads and highways.
