COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of five persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, June 24, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, June 26, at midnight.

As of June 26, 2016, 442 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 446 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 298 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 146 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight June 26, 55 pedestrians died compared to 53 in 2015; 59 motorcyclists died compared to 63 in 2015; and 11 bicyclists died compared to nine in 2015 on state roads and highways.
