COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of five persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, August 19, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, August 21, at midnight.

As of August 21, 2016, 600 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 608 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 389 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 186 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight August 21, 84 pedestrians died compared to 69 in 2015; 87 motorcyclists died compared to 95 in 2015; and 13 bicyclists died compared to 11 in 2015 on state roads and highways.
