COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of five persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, September 30, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, October 2, at midnight.

As of October 2, 2016, 729 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 711 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 468 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 228 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight October 2, 101 pedestrians died compared to 83 in 2015; 104 motorcyclists died compared to 106 in 2015; and 20 bicyclists died compared to 14 in 2015 on state roads and highways.
