COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of four persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, October 7, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, October 9, at midnight.

As of October 9, 2016, 744 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 734 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 475 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 229 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight October 9, 103 pedestrians died compared to 86 in 2015; 109 motorcyclists died compared to 112 in 2015; and 20 bicyclists died compared to 14 in 2015 on state roads and highways.
