COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of six persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, July 14, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, July 16, at midnight.

As of July 16, 2017, 525 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 527 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.

Of the 379 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 181 were not wearing safety belts. 

Through midnight July 9, 70 pedestrians died compared to 71 in 2016; 52 motorcyclists died compared to 73 in 2016; and 10 bicyclists died compared to 13 in 2016 on state roads and highways.
