As of July 1, 483 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 519 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017.
Of the 343 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2018, 172 were not wearing seat belts.
Through July 1, 69 pedestrians have died compared to 72 in 2017; 49 motorcyclists have died compared to 55 in 2017; and eight bicyclists have died compared to nine in 2017 on state roads and highways.
