COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of seven persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, March 24, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, March 26, at midnight.

As of March 26, 2017, 208 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 225 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.

Of the 156 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 80 were not wearing safety belts. 

Through midnight March 26, 29 pedestrians died compared to 31 in 2016; 15 motorcyclists died compared to 25 in 2016; and four bicyclists died compared to eight in 2016 on state roads and highways.
