The South Carolina Department of Public Safety has promoted Anthony S. Darby to serve as Commander of Troop Four for the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Troop Four includes Cherokee, Chester, Chesterfield, Fairfield, Lancaster, Union, and York counties. 

Captain Darby, who has served in Troop Four throughout his career with the Highway Patrol, was named Troop Four Commander to succeed Captain Brian S. Benfield, who is retiring after 26 years of service with the Highway Patrol. 

“Captain Darby has demonstrated impressive leadership ability, and I am honored to appoint him as the next Commander of Highway Patrol Troop Four,” said Colonel Christopher N. Williamson, Commander of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. “The majority of his time at the Highway Patrol has been in a leadership role in Troop Four, and I know that the time he has invested and the relationships he has built in the community will serve him well in his new position.”  

Captain Darby has nearly 25 years of law enforcement experience, which began at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in 1998, and then at the Chester County Sheriff's Office in 2000 before joining the Highway Patrol in 2010. Captain Darby also honorably served in the South Carolina Army National Guard for 13 years, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. 

A native of Chester, South Carolina, Captain Darby graduated from The Citadel in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in Legal Studies.  He currently resides in Gaffney with his wife, Traci Darby, their daughter Braelyn, and son Nathan.
