The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces the following event:

WHAT:                  Joint press conference between the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, the South Carolina Department
                              of Transportation, and the Columbia Police Department.

WHEN:                 Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.

WHERE:               Riverbanks Zoo overflow parking lot, 600 Block of Rivermont Drive, Columbia, SC (See map below for exact
                              location)

WHY:                    To discuss the reduction in highway fatalities for 2023, announce special enforcement efforts for the coming
                              holiday season, and unveil the return of the ‘Highways or Dieways’ paid media campaign.

WHO:                   Speakers include: Director Robert G. Woods, IV, SC Department Public Safety; Secretary of Transportation,
                             Christy A. Hall, P.E., SC Department of Transportation; Colonel Christopher N. Williamson, SC Highway Patrol;
                             Chief of Police William H. “Skip” Holbrook, Columbia Police Department; and Director Phil Riley, Office of Highway
                             Safety and Justice Programs.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety includes the Highway Patrol, State Transport Police, Bureau of Protective Services, Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame.
