COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of five persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, April 22, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, April 24, at midnight.

As of April 24, 2016, 262 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 288 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 181 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 87 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight April 24, 36 pedestrians died compared to 37 in 2015; 27 motorcyclists died compared to 26 in 2015; and nine bicyclists died compared to eight in 2015 on state roads and highways.
