SCDPS Reports Five Killed on South Carolina Roads July 29 – July 31, 2016

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of five persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, July 29, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, July 31, at midnight

As of July 31, 2016, 528 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 554 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.

Of the 346 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 173 were not wearing safety belts. 

Through midnight July 31, 70 pedestrians died compared to 63 in 2015; 78 motorcyclists died compared to 86 in 2015; and 11 bicyclists died compared to nine in 2015 on state roads and highways.
