COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of four persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, August 12, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, August 14, at midnight.

As of August 14, 2016, 579 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 596 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 373 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 180 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight August 14, 81 pedestrians died compared to 65 in 2015; 87 motorcyclists died compared to 94 in 2015; and 12 bicyclists died compared to 11 in 2015 on state roads and highways.
