COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of four persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, August 26, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, August 28, at midnight.

As of August 28, 2016, 617 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 629 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 399 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 189 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight August 28, 87 pedestrians died compared to 71 in 2015; 90 motorcyclists died compared to 97 in 2015; and 14 bicyclists died compared to 12 in 2015 on state roads and highways.
