COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of four persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, October 14, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, October 16, at midnight.

As of October 16, 2016, 778 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 764 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 494 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 236 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight October 16, 113 pedestrians died compared to 89 in 2015; 113 motorcyclists died compared to 118 in 2015; and 20 bicyclists died compared to 15 in 2015 on state roads and highways.
