Sergeant Mobley was on duty in Florence County when he was shot and killed after a struggle with a motorcyclist during a traffic stop. The suspect was convicted of murder. Sergeant Mobley was a twenty-one year veteran of the Patrol and a native of Greenwood County. One of Sergeant Mobley’s sons was a member of the Patrol at the time of his death and later became colonel of the Patrol.
